Ring road to ease traffic burden

Jędrzejów in southern Poland is soon to have a new ring road that will divert heavy traffic away from the town centre, helping to increase its attractiveness as an economic centre.

Additional tools

The project calls for a northern ring road along the national road no. 78, which runs east-west through the town. The new road will be close to eight km long and include two lanes.

Dual carriageway

Situated at important crossroads for traffic running north-south and east-west, as well as the regional roads no. 728 and 768, Jędrzejów is increasingly burdened by heavy traffic. At present the national road no. 78 crosses the town centre.

This project aims to provide some relief by building a new dual-carriageway ring road to the north of the town along the national road no. 78. It will connect via the existing eastern bypass to the national road no. 7, which links Kielce to the north with Kraków to the south.

Construction of the 7.86 km dual carriageway northern ring road will provide direct employment for some 670 people. Further related work will include the building of a medium-sized roundabout and a new junction with regional road no. 728 (Jędrzejów to Grójec). There will also be a new junction with national road no. 7; this will be connected to the existing ‘Jędrzejów’ junction on the town’s eastern ring road, jointly creating an ‘integrated intersection’.

Additional infrastructure scheduled under the project includes six road flyovers, two road culverts, two culverts for animals, and two footbridges. There will also be new facilities for treatment of sewerage and storm water, plus new noise barriers and the planting of greenery.

Faster and safer traffic

The project is sure to reduce the negative impact of traffic in and around Jędrzejów, while improving road safety on existing routes at this important crossroads. Experts calculate that it will result in significant time savings for passenger transport and freight – totalling almost EUR 6.7 million a year.

These improvements should also improve communication within Świętokrzyskie Province, helping to make Jędrzejów more attractive for inward business investment. Moreover, it should increase the importance of roads no. 78 and 768 for east-west transit traffic.

Total and EU funding

The project “Construction of northern ring road of Jędrzejów within national road no 78” has a total eligible budget of EUR 54 429 900, with the EU’s European Regional Development Fund contributing EUR 46 265 405 for the 2007 to 2013 programming period.
