Motorway improves journey times and safety
A new 20.85 km section of the A2 motorway which bypasses the Polish town of Mińsk Mazowiecki looks set to benefit local residents and long-distance travellers alike by cutting journey times and improving road safety.
The investment has provided for construction of the four-lane section of motorway along with various bridges, viaducts, agricultural passages, and pedestrian crossings. The road also boasts two service areas, and has been furnished with equipment for environmental protection and traffic safety. In addition, power networks, telecommunications facilities, water supply and drainage systems were constructed, rebuilt or protected as part of the scheme.
The new road is capable of carrying traffic at a maximum speed of 120 km/hour and can cope with axle loads of 115 kilonewtons (kN) per axle. Safety audits are scheduled for the motorway’s first year of operation. And once the road is open, an analysis of noise and pollution levels will be carried out. These tests could, if necessary, lead to action to eliminate any negative impacts on residential and rural areas.
The motorway forms part of the EU’s trans-European transport network, also known as the TEN-T programme, on a route which connects Western Europe to countries that lie to the east of Poland. The TEN-T programme aims to improve transport infrastructures across Europe in order to improve transport links in and between EU Member States.
