Motorway completion between Trikala and Xyniada to rejuvenate local economies

The final section of the E65 motorway between Trikala and Xyniada will complete the road axis of central Greece, and bring economic, access and safety benefits to the route.

Additional tools

The investment relates to the construction of the 78.5 km long section “Xyniada-Trikala” and the installation of toll stations and a communication system on the Skarfeia – Raches stretch (57 km) of the PATHE motorway. The motorway runs through Thessalia and Sterea Ellada.

Faster and safer roads

Two large bridges and ten small bridges will be constructed as part of this section, as well as two tunnels, eight multi-level  junctions, two motorist service stations and a control and maintenance centre. Overall, the construction will reduce the time taken for the transportation of goods, services and people between the two destinations from 78 to 39 minutes. The upgrade in road standards and conditions is expected to contribute to enhance road safety and reduce accidents. The reduction in road accidents is expected to be more than 30%.

Revenue generation

Two frontal and five side toll stations will be installed as part of the project, providing a source of revenue as well as creating new jobs. It is estimated that implementation of this project will create 53 new jobs and 360 further jobs should be created by the project’s completion.
