The 'RegioStars' awards seek to promote the exchange of experiences and good practices between Europe's regions as a way of boosting innovation.
They are held annually and aim to identify and celebrate regional development projects supported by the EU's regional policy. The awards showcase original and innovative projects that could provide inspiration to other regions in fields as varied as SME innovation, bio-economy, and sustainable urban transport.
To be nominated for an award, projects must invariably be innovative in character, demonstrate their sustainable credentials and show that they have made a positive contribution to their region's economy. They must also have produced results that may enhance local, regional and interregional partnerships.
