Regional Competitiveness and Employment Objective
This was one of the three priority objectives under European cohesion policy for 2007-13. It aimed to strengthen the competitiveness and attractiveness of, and employment in, regions not included in the Convergence Objective (which covered the most disadvantaged regions). It was designed to help pre-empt economic and social changes, promote innovation, entrepreneurship, environmental protection, accessibility, adaptability, and the development of inclusive labour markets. It was financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and the European Social Fund (ESF).
In the 2014-20 programming period, most of the regions previously covered by the Regional Competitiveness and Employment Objective now receive funding in their quality as more developed regions or transition regions.
