#EURegionsWeek 2019: two workshop on citizens’ engagement in Cohesion Policy
Going to the European Week of Regions and Cities 2019? You cannot miss the two workshops organised by the DG REGIO, in collaboration with Transparency International, presenting experience and good practice in the field of engaging citizens and civil society in Cohesion Policy. The two events will also feature the results from using Integrity Pacts for promoting more transparent and accountable use of the European tax payers’ money.
- 10 October, at 9:15: Citizens engaging for a better Europe - the workshop will present Italian experience with Integrity Pacts from the perspective of different stakeholders.
- 10 October, at 11:30: Civil society helping to bring ESIF closer to citizens – the people involved in the pilot projects in Greece, Slovenia and Romania, will share their concrete experience and achievements so far
In 2016 the European Commission and Transparency International joined forces to tackle corruption in public procurement in EU-funded investments. They launched a pilot initiative to test civil monitoring on a large scale and promote more transparent and accountable use of ESIF through Integrity Pacts – agreements between public authorities, companies bidding for a contract and civil society around public works. In 2019 the initiative won the European Ombudsman’s Award for Good Administration 2019 in the category “Excellence in open administration” for “its innovative use of the partnerships with NGOs, public authorities and private companies, helping to increase public trust through tackling corruption”. Integrity Pacts were included in the G20 Compendium of good practices promoting integrity and transparency in infrastructure development.
