An ERDF-funded Latvian language technology platform called Hugo.lv has already proven to be extremely popular, having received around 2.5 million translation requests since it was launched.

The platform, known as Hugo.lv, makes use of the latest developments in artificial intelligence for the Latvian language. These include internationally recognised machine translation systems, speech recognition tools and the use of the Latvian National Term Database.

This very popular tool has already registered 141 000 visits, 2.5 million translation requests and 45 million translations of words since coming online at the end of 2018.

According to the project manager, the platform’s popularity is proof of its high quality, versatility and user-friendliness as a tool. Because Hugo.lv focuses mainly on the Latvian language, it has proven much more effective than large global machine systems for Latvian language users.

The platform ultimately aims to increase productivity in Latvia, as well as to assist visually impaired and dyslexic people to access information resources and e-services across the internet.
