By encouraging the outermost regions to capitalise on their unique assets, the strategy seeks to help them create new opportunities for their people, boost innovation in sectors like agriculture, fisheries or tourism, while deepening the cooperation with neighbour countries. One year on, the main developments
in Saint-Martin are:

  • Better employability and acquisition of new skills for young people, including integration into the labour market through the development
    of vocational training in the arts and crafts sector or the administrative management of companies;
  • Support for researchers through the Horizon 2020 «FORWARD» project aimed at strengthening their presence in European and international innovation
    networks and their ability to participate in research projects;
  • Greater resilience and adaptation to climate change as a result of the island’s reconstruction efforts, in particular infrastructure, supported by
    the Solidarity Fund following Hurricane Irma in 2017;
