Reform of the interior sector in Latvia
In the context of Latvia’s Public Administration Reform Plan 2020, the Commission supported the reorganisation of the interior sector, which accounts for the largest share of the Latvian state budget. With expertise drawn from Estonia, Lithuania and Finland, the project presented concrete proposals for the reform of the State Police, the State Fire and Rescue Service and the Office for Citizenship and Migration Affairs.
The recommendations for organisational and functional changes, as well as the proposal for performance management systems, are being implemented. Moreover, the project led to further reform initiatives and projects in the interior sector.
