The European Union and China will develop a joint roadmap in order to enrich and balance their cooperation in research and innovation. The roadmap will cover both rules and mechanisms as well as specific science and technology fields for this collaboration.
This is one of the main outcomes of the fourth Innovation Cooperation Dialogue, held today in Brussels in the margins of the EU-China Summit.
A total of 246 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 24 countries have been selected for funding in the latest round of the SME Instrument. The companies will receive a total amount of €12.2 million from the EU's research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020, to share between their projects to get their innovations faster on the market.
The European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot will support 38 innovative projects to develop new ideas towards radically new future technologies. In total, the projects will receive €124 million under the future and emerging technologies (FET Open) strand of the EIC pilot, run under the EU’s research and innovation programme Horizon 2020.

The European Commission is supporting EBRD Pilot Action entitled ‘Innovation Support in Bulgaria, Latvia and Romania’, with €20 million in grants with the objective of addressing investment gaps in innovation and helping innovative SMEs and midcaps in these countries. The pilot action will provide a comprehensive package of finance (loans), advisory support and measures to promote green technologies.
The European Commission will support 14 top-class projects to bring their innovations faster onto the market under the European Innovation Council (EIC) pilot. Each project will receive around €2 million from the Fast Track to Innovation strand of the EIC pilot, funded under Horizon 2020, the EU's research and innovation programme.
