  • €2 million prize awarded to most accurate electricity grid flow predictions

    The European Commission today awarded the €2 million Big Data Technologies Horizon prize to three specialists for developing the most accurate predictions of electricity flow through a grid. The first prize of €1.2 million went to Professor José Vilar from Spain, while Belgians Sofie Verrewaere and Yann-Aël Le Borgne came in joint second place and won €400,000 each.

  • Latest results for EIC pilot: 246 innovators selected for funding under the SME Instrument

    A total of 246 small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) from 24 countries have been selected for funding in the latest round of the SME Instrument. The companies will receive a total amount of €12.2 million from the EU's research and innovation programme, Horizon 2020, to share between their projects to get their innovations faster on the market.

In total, the projects will receive €124 million under the future and emerging technologies (FET Open) strand of the EIC pilot, run under the EU’s research and innovation programme Horizon 2020.
  • EU loan helps kick-start construction of floating wind farm off the coast of Portugal

    he European Investment Bank today signed an agreement with the WindPlus consortium to provide a €60 million loan for installing a wind farm that will float in deep waters off the Portuguese coast. The loan will come from the InnovFin Energy Demonstration Projects facility (InnovFin EDP), which is funded under the EU’s research and innovation programme Horizon 2020.
