Programme: Europe for Citizens
Identifier: 601141-CITIZ-1-2018-1-BG-CITIZ-CIV
Title: Vote 4 Your Europe
Summary
An effective democratic system needs inclusive, transparent and credible elections. The rising Euroscepticism and distrust of national governance structures demotivate people to participate in the voting process. Turnout in the European Parliament elections 2014 fell to the lowest level ever, with only 42% of voters casting a ballot. Even more worrying is the fact that the lowest turnout was among young people (27% overall). In the light of this results and the EP elections in 2019, “Expert Pool – Bulgaria” initiates the project “Vote 4 Your Europe”. The general objective is to find a new set of tools for citizenship awareness by implementing a series of workshops that compare and discuss the different political agendas in the beneficiary countries. Specific objectives:- Motivating the EU citizens to go to the polls and encouraging their active democratic participation- Developing a stronger sense of ownership of the European project- Provoking a debate on the rise of Euroscepticism and its implications for the voting process and future of the EUThe project will include 10 partner organizations and more than 280 participants. Transnational project activities:1. Youth space: why voting is important – young people from beneficiary countries discussing how to increase youth interest and engage young people in democratic elections2. Democracy tourists – showing democracy in action in every project country through videos, interviews, photographs, storytelling, etc.3. A democracy day: event presenting the state of democracy in the EU, democracy’s forgotten turning pointsLocal activities: 10 workshops named “A Game of Opinions”, aimed at gathering and comparing the individual opinions of the citizens on how policy agendas are and should be implemented within the EU political framework. The expected outcomes are developing a comparison report on the political agendas; increased participation in the elections; more active democratic engagement; positive EU attitude.
