Title: Integrated approaches to sharing knowledge on Social inclusion systems of migrants and the role of EU Local Authorities
Summary
Over 65.6 million people worldwide are in need of protection and assistance as a consequence of forced displacement. Globally in 2017, over 40.3 million people are internally displaced as a result of conflict (IDMC 2016 ), while 22.5 million are refugees and 2.8 million are asylum-seekers (UNHCR 2016). The number of persons seeking asylum from non-EU countries in the EU-28 during the first quarter of 2017 reached 164.500. The more the refugee’s crisis growth the more societies assist to an increase in intolerance and social exclusion feelings. Even though various policies have been adopted at the EU and national levels, incidences of intolerance, discrimination and racism have not shown any significant decrease across Europe. The reason why of such negative feelings from a good share of EU population is mainly attributable to the “emergency” character of the crisis that since 2010 did not show relevant reduction signals. As a consequence, the EU Member States immediately put in place important reception system without paying adequate attention to hosting citizens and their feelings. The ISLA project intends to put together 4 EU countries in order to:- Share integrated practices addressed to communicate to citizens how reception systems work;- Find common practices aimed at allowing that reception and care systems active in EU countries could be opened to societies, allowing contacts with hosted refugees/asylum seekers and hosting citizens;- Strengthen social inclusion systems for refugees/asylum seekers asking for the help of volunteering actions directly proposed and thought with hosting citizens;- Find common communication tools allowing refugees/asylum seekers to present themselves to the hosting communities; - Produce political recommendations addressed to strengthen social inclusion and better cohabitation, thanks to the input coming from: hosting citizens, hosting municipalities representatives, hosted refugees/asylum seekers, and refugee professionals.
