Programme: Europe for Citizens
Identifier: 601608-CITIZ-1-2018-1-DK-CITIZ-CIV
Title: Connect Europe
Summary
The project aims to engage citizens from 7 different European countries in a constructive dialogue towards the EP elections in 2019. The project aims to start an informal discussion about the future of Europe with a bottom up approach by engaging citizens into a dialogue in order to support the EU democracy as a whole and support the different EU agendas, EU values and scenarios for the future EU towards 2020.The project is designed to increase the transnational democratic cooperation within the EU through different methods:Local talksNational conferencesPan-european campaignsFinal eventFocusing on similar themes and exchanges. With local talks, we will get a deeper understanding of the opportunities and concerns of the EU citizens in their everyday life. With national conferences, we will put together perspectives from citizens on a national and an EU level. The aim is to conclude the expectations and insights from EU citizens in a concluding conference in Brussels and through pan-European campaigns towards the EP elections in 2019.This project aims to challenge and understand the root causes of the increasing populism and nationalism around Europe, and to discuss the future of Europe based on EU values. It is a method for giving the voice to the citizens and to discuss the issues in comfortable, local settings. As this project is reflected on different levels in the political sphere, it will strengthen the understanding and cooperation between the EU citizens and encourage democratic participation in different levels of society, from the local to the national and the EU level. Discussion themes:What are the root causes of increasing populism? How can the citizens points of views be better understood on a EU level? What are the measures to counter battle Eurosceptic views, nationalism and populism? What are the positive measures to support the common EU vision of civil society? How can we increase and engage citizens participation on a EU level?
