The European Commission has launched an open public consultation on Aarhus and Pafos, the two European Capitals of Culture 2017, and would like to hear your opinion.

The European Commission has launched an open public consultation on Aarhus and Pafos, the two European Capitals of Culture 2017. This consultation aims to gain views of all interested citizens and organisations.

The European Capitals of Culture is an Action overseen by the European Commission and has an overall objective to:

‘Safeguard and promote the diversity of cultures in Europe, highlight the common features they share, and foster the contribution of culture to the long-term development of cities’.

To achieve this objective, the European Capitals of Culture Action is intended to help host cities enhance the range, diversity and European dimension of their cultural offer, widen participation in culture among residents and strengthen the capacity of the local cultural sector. It also aims to raise the international profile of the host cities and help promote and celebrate different European cultures.

The European Commission is very interested in hearing your views on how the European Capitals of Culture were delivered in the two 2017 host cities of Pafos and Aarhus, and the benefits they generated. Your views will feed into an independent evaluation of the European Capitals of Culture taking place on the European level. This will serve as advice for cities bidding for and hosting the European Capitals of Culture in the future.

We welcome all citizens and stakeholders interested in culture to respond to this consultation. If you have visited one or both of the two 2017 European Capitals of Culture your contribution will be even more valuable.

The questionnaire is available in English, French and German and is available until 11 July 2018. It takes around 5-10 minutes to complete and your responses will remain confidential. Have your say and help us improve this wonderful initiative for cities and culture around Europe!
