Music Moves Europe (MME) was at MIDEM to promote the Commission’s support for the European music ecosystem.
Tibor Navracsics, Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, Tamás Szűcs, Director Culture and Creativity, Directorate-General for Education, Youth, Sport and Culture (DG EAC), and the MME team promoted the European Commission’s initiative in support of Europe’s music sector at MIDEM. Franck Riester, French Minister of Culture, expressed his support for a targeted approach on music in the Creative Europe programme.
Hundreds of professionals visited the MME stand seeking information on the Commission’s policy and support in favour of Europe’s music sector.
One of the highlights was the visit of the French Minister of Culture Franck Riester, who welcomed the Commission’s support for music in his speech: “I am pleased with the progress of works on Creative Europe, which should soon provide specific support for the music sector. I welcome the Commission's intention, initiated in the framework of a dialogue held since 2015, to provide specific support to the music sector. The vote in September 2017 by the European Parliament then materialized in June 2018 with the publication of calls for projects in a preparatory action "Music Moves Europe". Axel Voss, MEP, also visited the stand to exchange on the progress made in the field of copyright and the impact on the music sector.
Tamás Szűcs underlined the importance of the music industry and how music could actively contribute to the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.
Another highlight was the MME session in MIDEM’s Artist Hub where participants discussed how artists can benefit from the Music Moves Europe initiative.
MIDEM is the leading international trade show and business event for the music industry. This year the event took place between 4 and 7 June.
