Representatives of the European music music sector in all its diversity met in Brussels to discuss topics relevant to their work.

Tibor Navracsics, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport, took part in the Music Moves Europe dialogue meeting (20-21 May) – the first of a series of targeted dialogue meetings with representatives of the music sector. Over 100 people joined the dialogue.

Music Moves Europe, the European Commission’s framework for initiatives and actions in support of Europe’s music sector, is about shaping policy, negotiating new legislation, providing EU funding and getting into dialogue with the music sector to strengthen the sector's assets: creativity, diversity and competitiveness.

During the event participants focused on four topics - music media, live music, access to capital, copyright.

Participants of World Café sessions had lively discussions on the future of music media and the challenges for live music. Two expert panels provided information on the access to capital for the music sector and discussed the next steps of implementing the new EU Copyright Directive.

As a result, this first Music Moves Europe dialogue had delivered ideas and proposals, which will be summarised in a conference report and will feed into the further development of the European sectoral approach on music.
