European Heritage Label: 19 sites pre-selected by Member States

The European Commission received 19 proposals from 13 Member States participating in the European Heritage Label action for sites to be awarded under the 2019 selection.

The European Commission received 19 proposals from 13 Member States participating in the European Heritage Label action for sites to be awarded under the 2019 selection. A European panel of independent cultural experts will now evaluate the applications of the pre-selected sites and will select a maximum of one site per Member State. The European Commission will formally nominate the sites to receive the European Heritage Label in early 2020. 

The European Heritage Label is a European action under the Creative Europe Programme. The action aims to raise awareness of sites that have played a significant role in the history, culture and development of the European Union, as well as to highlight their European dimension through information and educational activities. The ultimate objective of the European Heritage Label is to strengthen the sense of belonging of citizens to the European Union based on shared values and elements of European history and cultural heritage. 

Member States pre-selected the following sites 

  • Colonies of Benevolence 1818-1993, Transnational site, Belgium and the Netherlands
  • Coudenberg Palace, Belgium
  • Kynžvart Chateau – Place of diplomatic meetings, The Czech Republic
  • Werkbund Estates in Europe 1927-1932, Transnational site, Germany, Austria, Poland, the Czech Republic
  • Sagunto, Spain
  • Columbus Sites, Transnational site, Spain and Portugal
  • Lieu de Mémoire au Chambon-sur-Lignon, France
  • Vučedol Culture Museum and Vučedol Archaeological Site, Republic of Croatia
  • Historic Urban Landscape of Szentendre, Hungary
  • Vizsoly Bible Commemorative Site, Hungary
  • Valentino Castle, Italy
  • Archaeological Area of Ostia Antica, Italy
  • Three Brothers, Latvia
  • Site of National Remembrance in Łambinowice, Poland
  • Polish National Film, TV and Theatre School named after Leon Schiller in Lodz, Poland
  • Lines of Torres Vedras, Portugal
  • Azores Underwater Cultural Heritage, Portugal
  • Zdravljica, The Message of the European Spring of Nations 1848, Republic of Slovenia
  • The Manor House Dolná Krupá, Slovakia
