The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) is a translation tool that helps communication and comparison between qualifications systems in Europe. Its eight common European reference levels are described in terms of learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and competences. This allows any national qualifications systems, national qualifications frameworks (NQFs) and qualifications in Europe to relate to the EQF levels. Learners, graduates, providers and employers can use these levels to understand and compare qualifications awarded in different countries and by different education and training systems.

    Type of qualification This qualification is a higher education/university degree. A system of tiered qualifications has been agreed upon in the European Higher Education Area. These are Bachelor degrees, Master’s degrees and doctorates. Bachelor is the title given to academic qualifications which are awarded following successful completion of the first cycle according to the German Higher Education Qualifications Framework and the qualifications frameworks of the European Higher Education Area. Persons acquiring academic degrees at Bachelor level are qualified for activities on the labour market or to pursue Master’s course of study. The usual period of study is a minimum of three years and a maximum of four years, equivalent to 180 and 240 ECTS points respectively. Description of the qualification (learning outcomes) Knowledge and understanding The knowledge and understanding of graduates builds on and extends significantly beyond the level of a higher education entrance qualification. They have demonstrated broad and integrated knowledge and understanding of the basic academic research principles of their area of learning (extension of knowledge).   5. Berufsartist (Staatlich geprüfter)/Berufsartistin (Staatlich geprüfte)

    Type of qualification This qualification is a vocational education and training at a vocational school governed by federal state law. Attendance at full-time vocational school for a period of two years imparts the necessary qualifications for the exercising of a state recognised training occupation under federal state law. This is a full-time school-based training course with a minimum duration of two years. Teaching encompasses a cross-occupational, an occupationally related and possibly also a practical area of learning. Courses are aligned towards occupational work processes and company business processes. A practical placement is integrated into training. Successful completion of training confers the right directly to exercise the occupation in question as a qualified skilled worker in a training occupation governed by federal state law. Those completing the qualification acquire the necessary employability skills for the exercising of a qualified occupational activity. These bring together professional competence, autonomy and social competence to form overall occupational competence. In the occupational context, vocational education and training in Germany has a multi-level system of advanced vocational training qualifications which are regulated in a nationally standardised manner. They differ with regard to competence requirements and the associated differing areas of possible company deployment. They require completion of a vocational qualification (in a recognised training occupation and/or recognised advance vocational training) or evidence of a comparable qualification.
