    The field of Advanced Materials Science deals with the (further) development, characterisation and application of materials. The development of new materials can be regarded as a foundation on which to open up future-oriented applications. The master’s programme is divided up into four semesters and includes the following general compulsory subjects: integrative laboratory materials, solid state physics, materials sciences, nuclear physics and quantum mechanics, applied chemistry, analytical chemistry, selection of materials, production and processing processes, characterisation of materials, physical properties of materials (1st and 2nd semester). As of the second semester students will choose their specialised elective courses, which include metallic and ceramic materials (ductility, original and deformation processes, functional materials), semiconductor process engineering and nanotechnology (physics of the semiconductor parts, surface chemistry, nanostructures and nanotechnology) as well as polymer sciences and plastics engineering (macromolecular materials, nanostructures in polymers, modern polymer characterisation).   3. Analytical Science Programme in Chemistry with a Focus on Forensics

    Att spåra, analysera och identifiera olika ämnen och material är en viktig uppgift inom många områden. För att säkra att mediciner inte innehåller skadliga ämnen, idrottare inte är dopade, eller att mat inte innehåller bakterier eller gifter, krävs det kunskap i analysvetenskap. Inom det kriminaltekniska området, forensik, används naturvetenskapliga metoder för att koppla spår, till exempel DNA eller oljespill, till brott.Utbildning är unik i Sverige och ger dig kunskaper inom kemi och biologi samt juridik för att du ska kunna göra utredningar i ett kriminaltekniskt laboratorium, inom läkemedels- och kemiindustrier, eller inom statliga utrednings- och övervakningsorgan. Blandningen av teoretiska och laborativa inslag är mycket uppskattad av våra studenter och passar dig som gillar att lösa problem genom att kombinera praktik med teori. Sista året ges möjlighet att studera utomlands, exempelvis forensik vid Glasgow Caledonian University i Skottland. Det finns även möjligheter att göra examensarbete med företag. Kemister finns inom flera branscher och kan specialisera sig inom många olika områden därför bedöms arbetsmarknaden för kemister vara god (www.naturvetarna.se). Lärarna bedriver forskning inom ramen för analysvetenskap och använder sina specialkunskaper och kontakter med näringslivet och myndigheter i undervisningen.
