A network of centres linking together the Careers Guidance systems in Europe euroguidance promotes mobility, helping guidance counsellors and individuals to better understand the opportunities available to European citizens throughout Europe.
Inheriting a curricular tradition which started with the Portuguese Studies variant and prolonged with the Portuguese, Language, Literature and Culture variant - both belonging to the Languages and Modern Literatures Degree -, the 1st cycle in Portuguese and Lusophone studies’ main goal is to satisfy an important deep education demand in mother language’s capacities and area of knowledge. Its foundation is not only the acquisition of theoretical and operative instruments for its structural functioning, but essentially the understanding and the absorption of its main achievements in written literature and culture, which also are, beyond their reference use, the most crystalline sediment in our collective memory.

The Faculty of Letters of the University of Porto offers undergraduate courses, Master’s courses and doctoral courses.
Based on an exchange of knowledge and expertise, the courses are designed to encourage the production of scientific knowledge and provide students with the professional skills they will require to enter the labour market and to pursue endeavours in entrepreneurship.
The Faculty's teaching staff is highly qualified with almost all its members hold a doctoral degree. They are vastly prolific in scientific production and have significant international experience in their areas of research and teaching.
The Faculty is also involved in student and teaching staff exchange programmes, namely through cooperation agreements with renowned foreign institutions, particularly with European and Brazilian universities.

A solid curricular education in the Lusophone culture, obtained in the 1st cycle in Portuguese and Lusophone studies provides the student basic competences which will allow him/her to invest in any domain where the deep knowledge of the mother language and of its cultural and civilizational heritage are a requirement, namely the accomplishment of qualified intellectual or human management functions in the administrative or business areas.
The University of Porto Social Services (SASUP) manages the University Residences and you can find all relevant information on how to apply for a room in the residences on their webpage. Please note that foreign mobility or exchange students coming from partner universities are provided with accommodation in the university residences on a "first come first served" basis and the registration is managed by the University of Porto International Relations Department (SRI) - further details in this link. Full degree or regular students wishing to rent a room in the residences must arrange the accommodation themselves, applying directly to SASUP.
