Energy and Environment

Course Information

Objective(s) of a study programme:

The programme is designed to prepare qualified specialists who have obtained a systematic knowledge and understanding and a critical approach to contemporary problems related to energy and its impact on the environment. To prepare professionals who are able to solve a complex technical, financial, managerial and ethical energy and environmental problems resulting from energy, industry, business and public sectors.

Learning outcomes:

1. to analyze physical processes and phenomena applicable for new energy sources;
2. to explore hydrogen use and storage processes for energy production;
3. to analyze and optimize actions of heterogenic energy sources in hybrid energy systems;
4. to analyze influence of energy sources to the environment;
5. to estimate the application potential of renewable energy sources;
6. to solve interdisciplinary problems of energy – environment impact;
7. to analyze energy economy taking into account environmental effects;
8. to provide consultations for governmental and non-governmental energy enterprises;
9. To prepare plans for the development of energy sector including new energy sources;
10. To apply the latest innovations in the area of new energy sources.

Activities of teaching and learning:

Lectures, seminars, laboratory work, independent work, tasks solving, study of textbooks and scientific papers, research project, master thesis.
Methods of assessment of learning achievements:
Learning achievements will be assessed during all semester through mid-term exams, laboratory works and classroom woks. Final examination is in written form, possible marks are from 1 (very bad) to 10 (perfectly). Students with marks from 1 to 4 will not pass an exam.


Optional courses: Thermal energy, New hydrogen storage materials, Environmental monitoring, Thermonuclear fusion, Radioecology, Quantum transformations, Energy safety and risk, The management of small enterprises, Sustainable energy.
