    1. The history curriculum encompasses all periods and theoretical orientations of Greek and international historical studies. In addition to their training in historical analysis, students are instructed in how to access, manage and evaluate computerized data, as well as produce content for the new technological environments of cultural management fields (education, research centers, museums, publishing houses, cultural policy development etc.). 2. The archaeology program offers a wide range of courses in archaeology and art history that cover broad subject matters and chronological periods from the Paleolithic era to the post-Byzantine period. The curriculum includes introdactory courses for 1st and 2nd year students and advanced courses for students in their 3rd and 4th year of study. Additionally, during the coyrse os their studies, students are introduced to new technologies used in the documentation and mapping of archaeological sites and monuments and are given the opportunity to participate in a number of archaeological field projects conducted by faculty members and the Greek Archaeological Service. 3. The anthropology curriculum consists of courses focused on the cross-cultural analysis of social and cultural phenomena, as well as on contemporary cultural theory.     Completion of the Department’s Undergraduate Studies Programme (U.S.P.) leads to a Diploma in Civil Engineering. The Programme has been designed to prepare scientists, who can successfully deal with composite problems regarding the analysis, design, construction, supervision and management of technical works. The U.S.P. is structured into ten semesters. All courses offered to students during the first six semesters follow the same curriculum. When they reach the seventh semester, students have to choose from one of the four Directions of Studies (specializations) offered by the Department. The Studies Programme varies depending on the direction chosen. The four Directions of Studies are: (a) Geotechnical, (b) Structural, (c) Transportation, and (d) Hydraulic. In addition, the fifth year of study includes the diploma thesis that involves extensive study within a particular scientific field.     Studies are structured in 8 semesters and courses structure is common to all students. Students of each year are divided equally into two groups, to allow for the compulsory courses to be taught in relatively small groups of students.     The Department of Foreign Languages, Translation and Interpreting of the Ionian University is the only University Department in Greece that trains Greek-speaking translators and interpreters. There are currently three working languages taught at the level of translation and interpreting from and to Greek: English, French and German. The curriculum also includes the teaching of Turkish, Spanish and Italian languages for beginners and advanced learners. The scientific and research objectives of the Department are pursued through the organisation of international conferences and seminars, the publication of the Scientific Yearbook of the Department and of the journal Glossa Polytropos, the supervision of doctoral theses and the publication of monographs, as well as the cooperation with Universities in Greece and abroad.
