Vaatetuksen osaamisala

Course Information

Opintojen aikana opit tulkitsemaan asiakkaan tyyliä, vartalotyyppiä ja mittasuhteita sekä suunnittelemaan, kaavoittamaan ja valmistamaan miesten pukineita erilaisille asiakkaille ja asiakasryhmille. Tunnistat erilaisia materiaaleja ja osaat valita niitä käyttötarkoituksen mukaan. Näitä taitoja harjoitellaan asiakastöissä, joita tehdään 1. vuodesta alkaen. Materiaalitietouteen ja kankaiden rakenteisiin paneudutaan aina kunkin meneillään olevan työn kautta. Opintoihin sisältyy lisäksi korjausompelua, jota toteutetaan oppilaitoksen studio-ompelimossa.

Viitaniemen kampuksella sijaitsevat  tekstiili- ja vaatetusalan opetustilat ovat ammatillisesti hyvin varustellut. Koulutuksessa käytetään teollisuuden koneita ja laitteita, joita on uusittu vuosittain. Opetustiloissa on opiskelijoille avoin tietokoneluokka, jossa voit tehdä kirjallisia töitäsi. Lisäksi käytössäsi on hyvä valikoima alan ammattikirjallisuutta. Myös blogeja ja muuta sosiaalista mediaa hyödynnetään opiskelun tukena. Oppilaitoksessa toimii studio-ompelimo, jossa tehdään pieniä korjaustöitä asiakkaille.

Those who have completed the qualification may work as textiles makers, knitters and clothes makers, makers of headwear, footwear and other accessories as well as in textiles care, laundry services and repairs. In addition, there is demand for skilled pattern-makers and for manufacturing small-scale sample or custom order series for the industry operating in other countries. Textiles and clothing experts are also needed in interior design. Making and repairing footwear, bags and belts often entails craft work and small-scale industry. Textiles and clothing experts also find jobs in the trade, sales and services sectors.

Those who have completed the Vocational Qualification in Textiles and Clothing are reliable, proactive, co-operative, service-oriented and quality-conscious. They are capable of logical thinking and perception. They have versatile manual skills and are able to use the most common materials and machinery of their field appropriately and economically. They command information technology and possess basic marketing and entrepreneurship skills and the ability to function in an international environment.

Dressmakers who have completed the Study Programme/Competence Area in Clothing: understand the different phases of clothing design and command the manufacturing process. They are familiar with materials and command repair methods. They may work in enterprises in pattern-making, manufacturing and finishing assignments. They may also work in costume departments and in customer services within the clothing field.

Soft Furnishings Sewers who have completed the Study Programme/Competence Area in Clothing: make patterns for and make sewn soft furnishings for private and public spaces. They are familiar with soft furnishing materials and know how to size and make products. They understand the effects of colours and lighting. Those who have completed the qualification may work in interior design stores, draper¿s shops and interior design centres. They may also work as independent entrepreneurs or subcontractors making products for other businesses.

Milliners who have completed the Study Programme/Competence Area in Clothing: make, design and refashion hats, bags, gloves and trimmings. Products are often unique pieces and handmade. They may work in milliner¿s or hatter¿s shops, department stores, theatres and costume departments, as independent entrepreneurs or subcontractors for larger businesses.

Tailors who have completed the Study Programme/Competence Area in Clothing: are experts in menswear. They are familiar with the manufacturing process of both industrially produced clothing and unique pieces from design to delivery. They may work in pattern-making, cutting, manufacturing and finishing assignments in clothing stores, formalwear rental stores and theatres and as independent entrepreneurs.

Textiles Makers who have completed the Study Programme/Competence Area in Textiles Technology: produce fibres, yarns, fabrics, knitted products or non-woven fabrics for use as clothing and soft furnishings as well as for technical, medical and high-tech purposes. They know how to use modern technical equipment.

Textiles Care Operatives who have completed the Study Programme/Competence Area in Textiles Care may work in textiles cleaning, care and rental services and in laundry and dry-cleaning establishments. They are familiar with materials, equipment, methods and care instructions.

Shoemakers who have completed the Study Programme/Competence Area in Shoemaking: command the basics of shoemaking and footwear repairs. They may work in different shoemaking assignments and in the footwear industry and as shoe-repairers. They may also work as entrepreneurs.
