  1. Biodiversity and Systematics, Nordic Master's Programme

Biodiversity and Systematics concerns the multitude of organisms living on our planet and the evolutionary relationships among them. Far from all existing organisms have been discovered and described, and among those organisms science knows of, classification is still ambiguous. With molecular tools and morphological and anatomical observations, new species are continuously being identified and their relationship to other organisms is being disentangled. In this programme, students are trained to gain the systematic and taxonomic expertise needed in our society to be able to take action against global loss of biodiversity. The Nordic Masters in Biodiversity and Systematics provides an intellectually challenging learning environment with roots in a research group and a wide range of courses, distributed across the Nordic countries, combining theoretical studies with practical elements. The programme is offered in cooperation with other Nordic universities. Career areas The programme is directed to students who are interested in a career as Nature conservation manager (public administrator or private consultant), officer at government agencies (Environmental Protection Agency, Swedish biodiversity Centre, etc) or non-governmental organizations (World Wildlife Foundation, Nature Conservation Organizations, etc), manager of biodiversity infrastructures (GBIF etc.) or want to pursue an academic career as Museum curator or university researcher. Contents The Nordic Masters in Biodiversity and Systematics curriculum ...

  3. Molecular Biology, Master's Programme

Are you interested in taking part in the new challenges of molecular biology? Then, the Master's Programme in Molecular Biology may be something for you. The programme will give you a solid background for further research studies, and a thorough base for the requirements that you can meet from employers outside the university. New technologies, making it possible to see what is happening at the cellular and molecular levels have been developed in the area of molecular biology. These new technologies, together with the genetic maps of a number of different species, give the foundations for the new challenges of molecular biology – to find new proteins, how they interact, and what mechanisms that guide cellular differentiation. Performing research on a number different species of model organisms will give you knowledge of the molecular mechanisms that regulate important functions inside the living cell, and also of the development of characteristics of different organisms. Career areas This Master's Programme gives you a possibility to enter more deeply into fields like molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, plant molecular biology and immunology. Possible workplaces for a master in molecular biology are universities, university colleges, hospital laboratories, civil services and public authorities, but also food-, drug- and biotechnological companies. Contents Advanced level courses in biology or in other relevant subjects, and a degree project of 30, 45 or 60 higher education credits (hec). The degree proj ...

  5. Master's programme in Genomics and Systems Biology

The Master's Programme in Genomics and Systems Biology is recommended for students looking for an exciting and interdisciplinary education at the forefront of modern biology. In this program you will study how genomes change over time and how life's molecules interact in networks to build up living organisms. This knowledge about the properties of complete biological systems, and not just their individual parts, is also essential in drug development, treatment of diseases and to improve industrial bioprocesses. Genomics and Systems Biology also opens the way for an understanding of evolution at the molecular level, which has implications for how we assess the adaptability of organisms to changing environmental conditions, such as climate change. Contents The program includes four in depth courses at the advanced level that you are recommended to take during the first academic year: BIO406 Advanced Functional Genomics 15 credits, BIO403 Advanced Bioinformatics 15 credits, BIO448 Experimental Systems Biology 15 credits and BIO442 Evolutionary Genomics 15 credits, all courses are taught in English. At the end of the programme you will do a thesis. The program gives you practical knowledge of emerging technologies for large-scale analysis of the molecules of life. The explosive development of technology in this field is interdisciplinary, and research and education lies at the intersection of Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Engineering, Mathematics and Computer Science. A central aim is to give you the skills to expe ...
