The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) is a translation tool that helps communication and comparison between qualifications systems in Europe. Its eight common European reference levels are described in terms of learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and competences. This allows any national qualifications systems, national qualifications frameworks (NQFs) and qualifications in Europe to relate to the EQF levels. Learners, graduates, providers and employers can use these levels to understand and compare qualifications awarded in different countries and by different education and training systems.

    Type of qualification This qualification is a advanced vocational training governed by federal state law at a trade and technical school. Trade and technical schools are continuing training institutions which impart recognised vocational qualifications governed by federal state law in various organisational forms (full-time or part-time basis).  They qualify workers to take on higher-level skilled work and middle-level and senior level leadership and management tasks in functional areas which are also knowledge and practice oriented.  Curricula build on the knowledge and competences imparted during initial vocational education and training and on the experiences gained from several years of professional activity and are closely aligned to company practice and current related technical disciplines. Duration of continuing training is 2 or 3 years (correspondingly longer if completed on a part-time basis). Those completing the qualification are in possession of competences for the planning, processing and evaluation of comprehensive professional tasks and problems and of competences for autonomous management of processes in sub-areas of a technical specialism or in a field of occupational activity. They are in a position to reflect upon their own actions, take on management tasks and enter professional self-employment.
