  2. Master's Programme in Plant Biology, Master of Science (2 years)

    The Master’s Programme in Plant Biology is a joint programme of the Faculty of Biological and Environmental Sciences and the Faculty of Agriculture and Forestry, which ensures an exceptionally comprehensive curriculum. You will be able to study the diversity of wild and cultivated plants from the Arctic to the Tropics, as well as plant functions from the molecular to the ecosystem level. The teaching is diverse, consisting of modern laboratory and computer courses, field courses, seminars and excursions. The curriculum is intertwined with research. You will be introduced to the research groups from the beginning of your studies, so you will become familiar with research methods as your studies progress. Much of the study material is in various learning platforms (such as Moodle), which allow distance learning. You will have a personal tutor who will help you tailor an individual study plan according to your requirements. Within the programme you can choose among several optional study modules and focus on, for example: Plant biotechnology and breeding Molecular biology and genetics Regulation of growth, reproduction and differentiation of tissues Biological basis of crop yield Plant ecology and evolutionary biology Evolutionary history and systematics of plants and fungi Species identification All modules are worth at least 15 credits.   3. Biokemia, Biokemian tutkinto-ohjelma, luonnontieteiden kandidaatti ja filosofian maisteri (3v + 2v)

    Teaching in the Faculty of Biochemistry and Molecular Medicine of the University of Oulu is based on the research work done in the faculty. Course teachers are also active in research and all researchers of the faculty teach on our courses. BSc studies contain chemistry and biology as minor subjects, and the studies include a lot of practical work. Spring term of the third year is free from compulsory courses and exchange studies are then possible without them extending the study time. MSc studies are planned such that students have maximal possibilities to do practical research work in laboratories using state-of-the-art research facilies and equipment. Upon completing the MSc degree students have a minimum of 9 months experience in practical research laboratory work. Many students complete parts of the practical work, for example training or thesis work, outside Oulu in other internationally recognized research groups or biochemical laboratories or biotech companies. Both study lines offer flexibility for students to specialize in the aspects which they believe will most benefit their future career, including courses from the outside of the faculty, while at the same time having timetables which allow completion of the degree within two years. Consistent with our goal to provide the highest-level of education and research through the systematic recruitment of experts from Finland and aboard all of the teaching on our MSc study programmes is in English. ...

  5. Matematiikka ja fysiikka, Matemaattisten ja fysikaalisten tieteiden tutkinto-ohjelma, luonnontieteiden kandidaatti ja filosofian maisteri (3v + 2v)

    Luonnontieteiden kandidaatin tutkintoon (LuK, 180 opintopistettä) kuuluu kaikille opiskelijoille yhteiset kieli- ja yleisopinnot, ensimmäisenä vuonna suoritettavat yhteiset matematiikan, fysiikan ja tietotekniikan perusopinnot sekä suuntautumisen mukaan valittavat opinnot, jotka voivat olla fysiikkaa, matematiikkaa, datatiedettä, teoreettista fysiikkaa, biolääketieteen fysiikkaa tai tähtitiedettä. Kandidaatin tutkintoon voi valita myös muita sivuaineopintoja kuten kemiaa, tietojenkäsittelytieteitä tai kauppatieteitä. Filosofian maisterin tutkinto (FM, 120 opintopistettä) koostuu suuntautumisvaihtoehdon mukaisista syventävistä opinnoista sekä niitä täydentävistä opinnoista.   6. Molecular Medicine, double degree, Master's Programme in Biochemistry, Master of Science (2y)

    Students from Oulu need to complete minimum of 30 ECTS studies (one term) and maximum of 60 ECTS (two terms) in Ulm, and vice versa. The first year autumn term is always in the home university. The term in the other university may be either the first year spring or the second year autumn. In the former case the pro gradu thesis is done in the second year autumn (and the first year spring courses are done in the second year spring) and in the latter case the pro gradu thesis is done in the second year spring.     Biologian LuK-koulutus käsittelee elämän perusilmiöistä ja -mekanismeista molekyylitasolta ekosysteemitasolle. Opiskelija omaksuu tieteellisen tutkimuksen perustaidot, joiden avulla hän pystyy tuottamaan uutta biologista tutkimustietoa sekä suhtautumaan kriittisesti olemassa olevaan tietoon. Opiskeluympäristö on kansainvälinen ulkomaisten tutkijoiden ja opettajien, jatko- ja vaihto-opiskelijoiden sekä oman KV-maisteriohjelman ansiosta. Ekologian opetukseen kuuluu kenttäkursseja. FM-tutkinto Opiskelijoille on tarjolla kansainvälisiä harjoittelu- ja vaihto-opiskelumahdollisuuksia niin molekyylibiologian huippulaboratorioissa kuin kenttätöissäkin tropiikista aina arktiselle alueelle Ekologia tarkastelee eliöiden ja eliölajien vuorovaikutusta toistensa ja elinympäristönsä kanssa sekä eliöiden levinneisyyttä ja määrään vaikuttavia tekijöitä.   10. Maisterihaku, Biologia, Biologian maisteriohjelma, filosofian maisteri (2v)

    Ekologia on laaja tieteenala, joka tarkastelee eliöiden ja eliölajien vuorovaikutusta toistensa ja elinympäristönsä kanssa sekä eliöiden levinneisyyteen ja runsauteen vaikuttavia tekijöitä. Tieteenala voidaan jakaa moniin erikoisaloihin joista esimerkiksi systematiikka ja taksonomia käsittelevät eliöiden luokittelua, morfologia niiden rakennetta, eliömaantiede levinneisyyttä ja käyttäytymisekologia käyttäytymispiirteiden funktiota. Eläinekologinen perustutkimus on Oulussa painottunut evoluutio-, käyttäytymis-, populaatio-, molekyyli- ja yhteisöekologiaan. Kasviekologinen opetus ja tutkimus on painottunut kasvien sopeutumiseen pohjoisiin olosuhteisiin, kasvipopulaatioiden ja eliöyhteisöjen ekologiaan, kasvien ja sienten vuorovaikutusten tutkimukseen sekä luonnonsuojelubiologiaan.
