The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) is a translation tool that helps communication and comparison between qualifications systems in Europe. Its eight common European reference levels are described in terms of learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and competences. This allows any national qualifications systems, national qualifications frameworks (NQFs) and qualifications in Europe to relate to the EQF levels. Learners, graduates, providers and employers can use these levels to understand and compare qualifications awarded in different countries and by different education and training systems.

    Type of qualification This qualification is a vocational education and training at a vocational school governed by federal state law. Attendance at full-time vocational school for a period of two years imparts the necessary qualifications for the exercising of a state recognised training occupation under federal state law. This is a full-time school-based training course with a minimum duration of two years. Teaching encompasses a cross-occupational, an occupationally related and possibly also a practical area of learning. Courses are aligned towards occupational work processes and company business processes. A practical placement is integrated into training. Successful completion of training confers the right directly to exercise the occupation in question as a qualified skilled worker in a training occupation governed by federal state law.
