    DefinitionA three to four year theoretical and practical research-based postgraduate programme of studies in chemistry at the Faculty of Physical Sciences, University of Iceland. The programme provides 180 to 240 ECTS units of credit and qualifies for the degree of phiosophiae doctor, PhD. Entrance requirements are a research-based MS-degree or a comparable qualification. The extend of the research project shall be 180 ECTS units. Doctoral studies are governed by special Faculty regulations. Type of knowledgeThe student possesses knowledge and understanding acquired from research carried out on an individual basis. The student's research findings shall contribute in a significant way to the development of the relevant field of study. The programme provides 120 ECTS units of credit and qualifies for the degree of magister scientiarum, MS. The entrance requirements are a BS-degree in chemistry or a comparable qualification, usually completed with the marks 6.5 og higher.
