The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) is a translation tool that helps communication and comparison between qualifications systems in Europe. Its eight common European reference levels are described in terms of learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and competences. This allows any national qualifications systems, national qualifications frameworks (NQFs) and qualifications in Europe to relate to the EQF levels. Learners, graduates, providers and employers can use these levels to understand and compare qualifications awarded in different countries and by different education and training systems.

  2. Geology, Doctorate

    Definition A three-year theoretical or experimental research-based postgraduate programme of studies in geology at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences, University of Iceland. The programme provides at least 180 ECTS units of credit and qualifies for the degree of philosophiae doctor, PhD. Entrance requirements are a research-based MS degree or a comparable qualification.  The scope of the research project shall be 180 ECTS units. Doctoral studies are governed by special Faculty regulations. Type of knowledge The student possesses knowledge and understanding acquired from research carried out on an individual basis. The student's research findings shall contribute in a significant way to the development of the relevant field of study. The student shall have initiated new knowledge, and its interpretation, with research which measures up to reviews and critique of other scholars in the relevant field.   4. Theology- Deacon Studies, BA

    A three year under-graduate academic programme in Theology at the Faculty of Theology, University of Iceland with a pre-determined course selection. Should a student choose to do work experience within the Church of Iceland, and should he fulfil other potential requirements, the programme grants the rights to work as a Deacon within the Church of Iceland. The programme can also grant professional rights within other denominations, fulfilling any requirements those might make.     Definition A three-year theoretical and practical programme of study at the Faculty of Earth Sciences, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the University of Iceland. It provides 180 credit ECTS units and qualifies for the degree of baccalaureus scientiarum, BS. Entrance requirements are a matriculation exam from a secondary school which must include at least 21 credits in mathematics and a total of 30 credits in science, at least 6 credits in physics, 6 in chemistry and 6 in biology. Type of knowledge The student should have acquired extensive knowledge and understanding of basic classical physics and basic geophysics. The student has been introduced to recent findings in geophysics.     Definition A two-year theoretical and practical programme of studies in biochemistry at the Faculty of Physical Sciences, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the University of Iceland. The programme provides 120 ECTS units of credit and qualifies for the degree of magister scientiarum, MS. The entrance requirements are a BS degree in biochemistry or a comparable qualification, usually completed with the marks 6.5 or higher. The scope of the research project shall be 60 or 90 ECTS. The MS degree provides access to third cycle doctorate studies.
