  2. Game Studies and Engineering

    This degree programme is an interdisciplinary programme dealing with the technical and the analytical and ethical aspects of video games and other games. In addition to the compulsory subjects of game engineering, game studies und game production students also have to study complementary subjects. Moreover, they have to do practical exercises, restricted electives (technical sciences, cultural and media sciences) and unrestricted electives. The students are obliged to do an internship (within the restricted elective “game production”). They can choose between the following two options: • supervised research internship (10 ECTS credits) within a pre-defined project at the university • supervised industry internship (10 ECTS credits) at a company, a public administration institution, a non-profit organisation in Austria or abroad within a pre-defined project lasting at least two months In justified cases subject-specific vocational experience gained before or during the master’s programme can be recognised as practical experience amounting to 10 ECTS credits.     Im innovativen Masterstudium Data Science dreht sich alles darum, wie Daten effektiv, fachkundig und verantwortungsvoll zur Wissensgewinnung genutzt werden können – ein Fragenkomplex, der nicht nur hohe Relevanz für Unternehmen, Regierungen und andere Organisationen hat, sondern auch jeden Einzelnen als Individuum betrifft. Darüber hinaus sind Erhebung, Modellierung, Analyse und Interpretation von Daten zentral im Wissenschaftsbetrieb an Universitäten und anderen Forschungseinrichtungen.   4. Bioinformatics

    The aim of the master’s programme in Bioinformatics at the University of Vienna is to train graduates who will be able to work on current research issues in bioinformatics with up-to-date measures as scientists. Moreover they should be able to represent the discipline adequately both in fundamental research and in applied areas. In the first semester students will study three introductory modules amounting to a total of 30 ECTS credits to align the level of knowledge of the different bachelor’s degrees. Specifically the necessary knowledge in the disciplines of biology, informatics and mathematics will be revised and newly studied, respectively. In the second and third semesters the students are introduced to bioinformatics by means of compulsory modules.
