Qualification Information

Students will be able to:

(general competences)

  • demonstrate in-depth understanding of the theoretical concepts of the field – its business, economic, legal, sociological and psychological aspects,
  • demonstrate thorough understanding and mastery of various research approaches in a scientific field,
  • independently develop new knowledge, skills, techniques, practices and materials through research work,
  • resolve the most demanding problems by testing and improving known solutions and by developing new solutions,
  • make a contribution through original research that extends the frontiers of knowledge and is important at the national and international levels,
  • critically analyse, evaluate and synthesise complex ideas,
  • participate in critical dialogues,
  • manage and promote complex social processes within the professional field,
  • show critical and self-critical judgement,
  • manage the most complex work systems and scientific research projects from a broad professional and scientific field,
  • publicly present and defend scientific studies,
  • promote, within academic and professional contexts, the economic and social advancement of the knowledge-based society,
  • demonstrate knowledge of research ethics and act in accordance with them,

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate systematic knowledge and understanding of the theory, theoretical categories, scientific paradigms and development of the field of management,
  • demonstrate thorough understanding of quantitative and qualitative research methodologies and apply them appropriately in research in this field,
  • demonstrate personal responsibility and put forth largely autonomous initiatives in complex and unforeseen situations in professional and related environments that are linked to education in the broadest and narrower senses in the field in question,
  • master new models and concepts, find new solutions and research approaches,
  • incorporate the findings of other disciplines into the broader field of management,
  • demonstrate critical judgement with regard to the broadest implications of the application of knowledge in specific professional contexts,
  • demonstrate understanding of and apply the methods of critical analysis and the development of skills and expertise in the application of knowledge in a specific professional field,
  • lead group work and demonstrate mastery of communication within an organisation and outside it,
  • take responsibility for managing highly complex business systems and develop the capacity for critical reflection,
  • carry out independent, original and publishable research,

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

In order to complete their studies, candidates must complete all taught course units (a total of 60 credits) and research requirements (120 credits) in accordance with the adopted study programme, and successfully defend a doctoral dissertation via a public presentation.

  • A completed second-cycle study programme; or
  • a completed undergraduate academic higher education programme adopted before 11 June 2004; or
  • a completed study programme referred to in Article 36(4) of the Higher Education Act, if the programme consists of 300 credits and has a duration of five years (integrated master's programme); or
  • a completed professional higher education programme adopted before 11 June 2004 and a specialisation programme, together totalling at least 240 credits; course units totalling between 30 and 60 credits from the second-cycle study programme Management will be specified for such candidates and must be completed before enrolment.
