    Aluetiede on soveltavaa maantiedettä, jossa yhteiskuntaa tarkastellaan alueellisen näkökulman kautta. Tämä voi tarkoittaa esimerkiksi yksittäisen kunnan tai vaikkapa kokonaisen valtion toimintojen tarkastelua. Tulevien aluetieteilijöiden asiantuntemusta käytetään ihmisten arkiympäristöjen kehittämisessä. Tällöin katse suunnataan usein elinkeinoihin, yrityksiin ja verkostojen rooliin, missä julkis-, yksityis- sekä vapaaehtoistoimijoiden välinen yhteistyö korostuu. Aluetieteen opinnot antavat monipuolisen kuvan yritysten ja julkisten organisaatioiden toiminnan alueellisista piirteistä, rakenteista ja kehityksestä. Opintojen aikana tutustutaan muun muassa paikkojen merkitykseen, ympäristökysymyksiin sekä liikennejärjestelmiin. Aluetieteen opinnot perehdyttävät opiskelijan myös alueellisen ja paikallisen kehittämisen ajankohtaisiin teorioihin, aluekehittämisen monitasoiseen järjestelmään ja käytännön aluekehitystyöhön.     Studier i utvecklingspsykologi förmedlar kunskap om hur människan utvecklas under livsloppet, vilka beteendemönster som är typiska under olika livsskeden, samt faktorer som påverkar utvecklingen. Människans utveckling är snabbast under barn- och ungdomsåren, därför är tyngdpunkten lagd vid denna period, men även människans utveckling under vuxen ålder samt hennes förmåga att klara livskriser behandlas. In addition to the thematic programmes, the University of Lapland has the general doctoral programme in which doctoral candidates follow discipline-specific doctoral paths. The content of your studies in the general doctoral programme is based on the faculty’s requirements for doctoral studies. Doctoral candidates of the general programme can, however, take courses offered by the thematic programmes. The doctoral candidate chooses in the application the most suitable doctoral programme: the general or one of the thematic programmes. The faculty grants the study right and degrees.   8. Doctoral Programme in Psychology and Logopaedics (4 yrs)

    A person who earns a doctoral degree in Psychology at the University of Tampere has a profound understanding of psychology as a discipline and of its development, basic problems, research methods and social significance. A graduate of the programme can independently and critically apply scientific research methods and discover new psychological knowledge. Not only is a holder of this doctoral degree thoroughly familiar with the general and psychological theory of science; he or she is able to find new areas of application as well. A doctoral degree also provides the skills to supervise students and lead research groups. A person who holds a PhD in Logopaedics has a profound understanding of logopaedics as a discipline and can conduct research independently, producing information on the interaction and communication between people in Finland – especially the impairment of communication, the prevention of such impairment and the effects of rehabilitation. A person with this doctoral degree is well versed in the general and logopaedical theory of science and is able to create new applications. Research in logopaedics at the University of Tampere is currently focused on impairments in speech, language, voice and swallowing in the adult population.
