Master Programme in the Humanities - Aesthetics

Course Information

The Master Programme in the Humanities provides you with the tools needed to better understand today's globalised world of encounters between peoples, cultures and societies. The Master's programme consists of a Master's thesis (45 credits) and mandatory courses within your selected discipline. In addition, you choose your own courses from the wide selection of open elective courses offered at the Faculty of Arts at Uppsala University. If you do the one-year Master's, your degree project makes up for 30 credits. There are also opportunities for broadening your competence through fieldwork (when applicable), or through shorter internships with businesses or public organisations, NGOs or government administration. The programme offers fifteen specialisations in Swedish and seven specialisations in English: (1) Archaeology, (2) Cultural anthropology, (3) Cultural Heritage and Sustainability, (4) Musicology, and (5) Classical Archaeology and Ancient History, (6) Aesthetics, and (7) Philosophy.
All specialisations provide you with professional, analytical capacities in general as well as in areas pertinent to you chosen field, and give you a broad basis for pursuing a professional or research career in the field of your major subject.
With a focus on theoretical and methodological developments in the humanities, as well as on more practical skills and competences pertinent to professional careers, you will graduate with a Master of Arts, specialising in your chosen discipline.
