Practical Editorship and Theory of Publication, MA

Qualification Information

1. Knowledge and understanding:
1.1. The student gains knowledge and understanding of the main tasks in editing academic publications.
1.2. The student knows as many reference systems as possible and their varying functions.
1.3. The student has the knowledge to edit academic texts in journals, books or in other publication media.

2. Type of knowledge:
2.1. The student has gained his knowledge in editorship and publication theory both with participation in specialised courses and with his own assignment work.

3. Practical competence
3.1. The student shall know the whole process of producing a work, from the first draft to publication.
3.2. The student learns to advise on making changes and improvements to texts that are to be published.
3.3. The student is competent to advise authors/translators of texts on the best methods to employ in order to achieve results.
3.4. The student can make proposals for changes and improvements to texts that are to be published in an academic context.
3.5. The student can take on project management in larger publishing projects, according to requirements and can monitor the quality of texts.

4. Theoretical skills
4.1. The student can analyse texts for publication on the basis of academic requirements and of the demands that the form and format of the whole publication make on authors/translators
4.2. The student can make editorial decisions based on his academic knowledge.

5. Communication competence
5.1. The student can work with others on editorial and publication projects and can complete them on schedule.
5.2. The student can present academic conclusions, equally to an audience of specialists and to the public.
5.3. The student shows skills in information literacy and can use modern technology and software in processing data, knowledge search and in gathering information.

6. General academic competence
6.1. The student has reached the necessary level of autonomy and discipline in work to be able to study at level 4.
