Qualification Information

Students will be able to:

(general competences)

  • master research methods,
  • develop critical and analytical thinking,
  • make independent decisions based on self-critical assessment,
  • analyse, synthesise and integrate knowledge from other fields,
  • demonstrate independence in professional work and in making decisions,
  • demonstrate a commitment to general and specific ethical principles (ethics in public administration),
  • solve problems in the light of broader social fields,
  • analyse problems in their working environment,
  • use modern information and communication technologies (web portals),

(subject-specific competences)

  • demonstrate familiarity with and understanding of the foundation and history (of development) of the fundamental discipline,
  • resolve specific work problems through the application of scientific methods,
  • perform critical analysis and reflection,
  • think and provide reasoning in a scientific way and solve problems,
  • understand and apply critical analysis methods and development of theories, and apply them in solving specific work problems,
  • demonstrate coherent mastery of basic knowledge,
  • link knowledge from various areas,
  • place new information and interpretations in the context of the fundamental discipline of the profession,
  • place new information, knowledge and interpretations in everyday working experience,
  • develop skills in the application of knowledge in a specific technical field,
  • understand the basic structure of the fundamental discipline and the links to its sub-disciplines,
  • face up to individual cases (fields) in which they work or which they encounter in their work.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

Examination performance is graded as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

  • A completed first-cycle study programme in a relevant professional field (according to the ISCED qualification these are all accredited undergraduate programmes in the field of law (38), social sciences (31) and business and administrative sciences (34) after and before the introduction of the Bologna system in Slovenia); or
  • completed first-cycle study programme in the field of humanities (22) or another professional field (in this case candidates must pass the following differential examinations: Basics of Law, Basics of Constitutional Order, Basics of Administrative Law); or
  • completed first-cycle study programme or programme to obtain higher education qualifications adopted before 11 June 2004 in another professional field, but prior to enrolment candidates must pass differential subjects set by the academic affairs committee depending on the professional field of previous study.
