  2. Civil Engineering, Doctorate

    Definition A three-year academic and applied research-oriented graduate programme in civil engineering at the Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, School of Engineering and Natural Sciences of the University of Iceland. The programme is 210 credits and comprises at least 30 credits in courses and a 180 credit research project. Admission requirements are a research oriented MS degree or equivalent. Graduates from related disciplines can be admitted on fulfilling supplementary requirements. Knowledge, competence and skills On completion of the doctoral examination the student can demonstrate knowledge, skills and competence as detailed below: 1. Knowledge and understanding: 1.1. The student has gained extensive and detailed knowledge of the main theories, fundamental aspects, concepts and of the newest knowledge in a chosen area in the field of civil engineering. The knowledge is significantly deeper than that which he gained at previous levels. 1.2.   4. Diploma in Construction Technology

    The programme leading to a Diploma in Construction Technology is 90 ECTS credits, taught through distance learning. The requirements for the Diploma in Construction Technology reflect the requirements for the professional title of Certified Technician (Icelandic: iðnfræðingur), as accredited by the Icelandic Ministry of Industries.The programme is practically orientated, rooted in the construction and civil engineering industry. Emphasis is placed on practical project work and the application of computer design tools. Most of the teachers have extensive industrial experience. In the final semester, students complete a final project of 12 ECTS dealing with technical solutions in development, design and planning, wherein they demonstrate the knowledge and professional competence they have gained. The main objective of the programme is to qualify students for jobs as intermediate professionals, filling the gap between certified tradesmen and higher level technical staff. Students who graduate with a Diploma in Construction Technology may take a further 120 ECTS in constructing architecture and graduate with a BSc degree in Constructing Architecture, a total of 210 ECTS credits.
