    Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences: 180 to 300-credit programme for a doctorate (Ph.D programme) Definition Three to five-year theoretical and practical postgraduate programme (research-based postgraduate programme) in pharmacy at the University of Iceland Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The programme is 180-300 credits at higher education cycle 3, and fully accredited to confer the title of philosophiae doctor, Ph.D. Admission requirements are a research-based MS degree or comparable qualification (90 credits) – or a BS degree (150 credits), generally completed with a grade of 7.25 or above. The research project shall be 180 credits following an MS degree or 300 credits following a BS degree. In the case of study for a doctorate, specific faculty rules apply. Knowledge, competence and skills On completing the doctorate, a student should have met the following criteria, in addition to those already met at lower levels: 1. Knowledge and understanding 1.1. The student has attained an extensive and detailed understanding of the primary theories, basic principles, terminology and most recent knowledge in a selected field of pharmacy. The knowledge is significantly deeper than that acquired at lower levels of study. 1.2. The student possesses original and critical thinking skills regarding the research area and can present and develop academic ideas. 1.3.     1. Knowledge On graduating, students shall possess extensive knowledge of clinical pharmacy. 
 This means that students shall: have a comprehensive knowledge and understanding of clinical consultation, toxicology, pharmacological care, patient services, mixing pharmaceutical drugs for infusion and medicines information. be aware of problems facing clinical pharmacists and have extensive insight into clinical pharmacy. have acquired knowledge through their own research and be able to argue for their own solutions to challenges in clinical pharmacy. have an extensive understanding of (and the ability to apply) methods used when studying and working in the field of clinical pharmacy, e.g. problem solving, evaluation, research methodology and data analysis. 2. Practical competence On graduating, students shall be able to apply methods and procedures within a specialist field of the subject or profession.

    Pharmacy: 120-credit MS programme (qualification for professional certification) Definition Two-year theoretical and practical postgraduate programme in pharmacy at the University of Iceland Faculty of Pharmaceutical Sciences. The programme is 120 credits at higher education cycle 2, and fully accredited to confer the title of Master of Science (MS). The admissions requirement is a BS in Pharmacy, generally with a final grade of 6.5 or higher. The final research project shall be worth 30 credits. An MS confers access to doctoral study, at higher education cycle 3. Knowledge, competence and skillsOn completing the MS programme, a student should have acquired the following knowledge, in addition to that already acquired at undergraduate level: 1.
