    The core skills of architecture are planning, construction and design. Tasks include detailed planning, support structure planning and object planning, urban development, landscape design and spatial planning as well as the design of virtual spaces, always taking into account artistic, technical, ecological and social aspects. The degree programme is divided into five platforms. These are: 1. analogue and digital production, 2. supporting structures, materials, technology, 3. ecology, sustainability and cultural heritage, 4. history, theory, critique, and 5. geography, landscapes and towns. The students can choose one of these as thematic and specialisation area. Other modules are project, planning seminar and elective subjects. At least one of these electives should be studied outside the department. The degree programme concludes with a master's thesis and the defence of this thesis in the form of an oral examination. ...

  2. Architecture (E)

    Architecture intensively deals with planning and design of buildings and thus in the broadest sense represents the dealing of man with built space. The degree programme consists of four modules (architectural design, expertise, integration and free topics). Students have to create five architectural plans. The Expertise module is divided into the three groups of subjects Implementation, Theory and Implementation and Communication. Each group of subjects contains core subjects and supplementary subjects. From the three groups of subjects integrative courses in the context of architectural planning (architectural planning 5) must be studied additionally. This corresponds to the module Integration. It is possible to do part of the free topics as a work placement in the form of qualified practical work in an architectural firm.   4. Astronomy

    The subject Astronomy deals with the science of the universe, the celestial bodies (planets, stars, galaxies) and the outer space. The teaching of methodological and theoretical knowledge of astronomy and computer skills are central aspects. In the master programme Astronomy the compulsory modules cosmology and extragalactic astronomy, stars and planets, Milky Way and interstellar medium, methods and instruments of astronomy, classical astronomy as well as celestial mechanics and history of astronomy are offered. Two of these modules can be studied in a more intensive way as astronomical elective groups of modules. This serves to prepare students for the master thesis and to set the focus for this thesis. The first compulsory module can either be Astrophysics II or Astronomical Instruments II, as the second compulsory module students can choose either a practical training in observation-oriented astronomy or a practical training in numerical astronomy. Eventually students can choose elective modules from natural sciences subjects such as biology, chemistry, earth sciences, mathematics or physics. To complete the master programme in Astronomy an independent scientific paper dealing with a current research topic is to be written. ...

  5. Atmosphere Sciences (E)

    The degree programme in Atmosphere Sciences deals with the nature and the processes of the atmo-, hydro-, cryo- and lithosphere. In the master's programme students have to study ten compulsory modules and also gain 10 ECTS credits from four elective modules. The compulsory topics deal with boundary layer and radiation, mathematical methods of physics, ice and climate, basic concepts of scientific research, geo-fluids dynamics, remote sensing, alpine and synoptic meteorology. As regards the elective modules students can choose from a broad range of topics, e.g. glaciology, alpine meteorology, numerical methods, computing and databases, palaeoclimate, geology of the Quaternary. Students should study two related, specialising modules from the areas of climate and cryosphere or alpine meteorology.     Civil and Environmental Engineering shapes the technical environment. It designs, plans, constructs, builds and operates structures and is responsible for the infrastructure. Tasks also include the drafting of plans, analysis and expertise. The work becomes evident in visible and non-visible structures, e.g. bridges, sewage treatment plants. The master programme is divided into general education and specialisation. The general education consists of three compulsory modules. These are: Alpine Infrastructure Engineering 1, Computational Engineering 1, Innovative Building Materials, Building Methods and Constructions 1. The specialisation is divided into two branches of two compulsory modules each. Students can choose between Infrastructure and Environment or Construction and Management. The compulsory modules related to Infrastructure and Environment are Alpine Infrastructure Engineering 2 and Computational Engineering 2. The compulsory modules related to Construction and Management are Innovative Building Materials, Building Methods and Constructions 2 and Computational Engineering 2. Moreover four elective modules are available in the specialisation. These are: Alpine Infrastructure Engineering 3, Computational Engineering 3, Innovative Building Materials, Building Methods and Constructions 3 and Soft Skills 2.
