    The work load of the doctoral degree is approximately 4 years of fulltime work. This consists of postgraduate studies, doctoral research and a public defence of the doctoral thesis. The licentiate degree in health sciences consists of postgraduate studies and a licentiate thesis. One can also pursue academic postgraduate degrees part-time. Doctor of Health Sciences consists of postgraduate studies of 60 credits, and a doctoral thesis and a public defence of the doctoral thesis of 180 credits (a total of 240 credits). Licentiate of Health Sciences consists of postgraduate studies of 60 credits and a licentiate thesis of 90 credits (a total of 150 credits).  Doctor of Health Sciences and Licentiate in Health Sciences are pursued in the Doctoral Programme in Nursing Science (DPNurs).
