    The doctoral programme in theology and religious studies gives doctoral students knowledge and skills required for carrying out independent research as well as provides support as they enter the academic environment (advising for participation in conferences, providing opportunities for training in teaching and lecturing etc.). The doctoral programme of the UL Faculty of Theology cooperates with other universities in Germany, the United Kingdom, Estonia, as well as the Nordic countries, so that doctoral students during the period of study in the programme have the opportunity to carry out research and participate in conferences and seminars abroad, thus being enabled to start contributing independently to the scholarly discussion in the relevant fields at an international level.   2. Teoloģija un reliģiju zinātne- Doktora studijas

    Teoloģijas un reliģiju zinātnes doktora studiju programma nodrošina patstāvīgu pētījumu veikšanai nepieciešamās zināšanas, kā arī palīdz doktorantam spert pirmos soļus akadēmiskajā vidē (konsultējot dalību konferencēs, nodrošinot pedagoģiskā darba praksi u. tml.) LU Teoloģijas fakultātes doktorantūra sadarbojas ar citām Eiropas universitātēm Vācijā, Apvienotajā Karalistē, Igaunijā, kā arī ziemeļvalstīs, līdz ar to doktorantiem ir iespēja studiju laikā veikt pētniecību un piedalīties konferencēs un kolokvijos arī ārpus Latvijas, tādējādi patstāvīgi veidojot atgriezenisko saikni ar teoloģijas pētniecību pasaulē. Studentiem ir iespēja izvēlēties viņus interesējošo promocijas darba tēmu no plašā teoloģijas un reliģijpētniecības apakšnozaru loka. Programmas veidošanā ievērotas starpdicisplinaritātes princips, aplūkojot reliģiju plašākā kultūras un sociālā kontekstā, līdz ar to programma ir atvērta arī studentiem, kuru iepriekšējā izglītība nav teoloģijā un reliģiju zinātnē. LU Teoloģijas fakultātes doktora studiju programmas mērķis ir sagatavot augsti kvalificētus zinātniekus teoloģijas un reliģiju zinātnes jomās.   9. Old Nordic Religion, Doctorate

    Knowledge, Ability and Skills At the conclusion of the doctoral program, the student shall be demonstrate the following knowledge, skills and abilities:   1. Knowledge 1.1 The student has an extensive and detailed understanding of the main theories, basics, concepts and most recent knowledge within a specific field within the field of Old Nordic Religion. The knowledge is significantly more substantial than that achieved during the previous level of study. 1.2 The student possesses knowledge and understanding acquired through own research, which can be considered an important contribution to the field of research. 1.3. The student knows the systems for financing and evaluating research and has an understanding of how research is used for academic and practical purposes. 1.4 The student has an understanding of the nature of scientific research and knows the rights and obligations of scientists, including issues relating to confidentiality, copyright, ownership of results and data. 2.     Theology and Religious Studies: 180 credit doctorate programme The programme is a three year long research programme at the Faculty of Theology, University of Iceland. Admission requirements are a MA degree or a mag. theol. degree (Provisionally: or a cand. theol. degree) On completion of a Doctorate degree, the following criteria shall be fulfilled: Knowledge and understanding Students possess extensive and in-depth understanding of main theories, principles, concepts and of the latest findings available within the field of Theology. The knowledge shall be more in-depth than that acquired at previous levels of study. Students have contributed important innovation to the field of study in the form of new knowledge or significant adaptation, innovative utilisation or interpretation of existing knowledge. Students are familiar with the systems used for funding research and research evaluation. They understand the practical purpose of research for academic, cultural and social purpose.
