Biotechnology is the integration of biosciences, chemistry and process engineering with the aim of technological use of organisms, cells and macromolecules for the processing, upgrading and treatment of biogenic raw materials for the production of materials for the benefit of society and the environment. Within the framework of the programme students must do a compulsory work placement in subject-related industrial enterprises or in non-university research, testing and examination institutions of altogether two months. The topic of the master’s thesis orients itself on a subject of the master’s programme and it will be supervised by the professors teaching the subject. The master’s examination consists of a pass grade on all required subjects and an oral examination before a committee (about the topic of the master’s thesis). ...

  2. Screenplay Writing and Dramaturgy

The focus of the degree programme “Screenplay Writing and Dramaturgy” is on imparting knowledge about screenplay writing and dramaturgy. In the framework of the degree programme practical assignments must be done, namely the writing of screenplays for several short films and one 90-minute film. The degree programme concludes with a master’s thesis consisting of two parts: an artistic-practical assignment (screenplay for a feature-length film) and a written theoretical explanation of it and a written theoretical paper. Moreover, an examination before a committee must be sat, in which the artistic-practical work is presented and an oral question-and-answer session about it takes place. ...

  3. Building Science and Technology (E)

The core skills of the degree programme in Building Science and Technology are planning, construction and design. Tasks include detailed planning, support structure planning and object planning, urban development, landscape design and spatial planning as well as the design of virtual spaces, always taking into account artistic, technical, ecological and social aspects. The degree programme is divided into six modules. These are: fundamentals, building performance, design computing, concentration subjects, elective subjects architecture and related technical sciences and elective subjects and additional qualifications. In the fundamentals module the basics of building science, such as application of digital and metrological tools are taught. The building performance module is characterised by the teaching of knowledge in building physics, building ecology and sustainable building, human ecology, building diagnosis and building control and application of artificial intelligence methods in building sciences. The design computing module concentrates on the application of architectural planning and visualisation tools. Students can enhance their knowledge in the concentration courses in fundamentals, building performance or design computing. The degree programme concludes with a master’s thesis and an examination covering subject matter from all subjects. ...

  6. Chemistry

The discipline Chemistry deals with the three sub-areas of chemistry, i.e. biological chemistry, material chemistry and computer-aided chemistry. The discipline covers the principles, laws, techniques and methods of chemistry. The examination subjects in the master’s programme “Chemistry” include inorganic and organic chemistry, analytical chemistry, physical and theoretical chemistry, environmental chemistry and technical chemistry. The elective course catalogues include laboratory courses, chemistry, electives in chemistry and soft skills. The elective subjects that can be chosen freely can be chosen from the whole range of courses of all Austrian universities; subjects such as mathematics, nomenclature of chemical compounds, introduction to technological impact assessment or women and gender research, however, are recommended. A few supplementary subjects are also required. A study period abroad is supported. To complete the programme a master’s thesis must be written, which should be thematically oriented on the compulsory subjects. ...
