The European Qualifications Framework (EQF) is a translation tool that helps communication and comparison between qualifications systems in Europe. Its eight common European reference levels are described in terms of learning outcomes: knowledge, skills and competences. This allows any national qualifications systems, national qualifications frameworks (NQFs) and qualifications in Europe to relate to the EQF levels. Learners, graduates, providers and employers can use these levels to understand and compare qualifications awarded in different countries and by different education and training systems.

    Type of qualification This qualification is a nationwide standardised advanced vocational training. In the occupational context, vocational education and training in Germany has a multi-level system of advanced vocational training qualifications which are regulated in a nationally standardised manner. Within the scope of regulated advanced training, three levels of advanced training are differentiated. They differ with regard to competence requirements and the associated differing areas of possible company deployment. They require completion of a vocational qualification (in a recognised training occupation and/or recognised advance vocational training) or evidence of a comparable qualification. This then serves as the basis of the qualifications. Those completing the qualifications are equipped for the autonomous and responsible assumption of demanding tasks in companies. Advanced training courses leading to the qualification of master craftsman (e.g. master craftsman in the craft trades, certified master craftsman, certified industrial foreman, master craftsman in agriculture) are an example of the second level of advanced professional training. Master craftsman qualifications are mainly concentrated in the technical craft trades, industry and agriculture. The main task focuses of a master craftsman are autonomous management of a company, e.g. in the craft trades sector, or technical, organisational and human resources management of working groups at industrial or craft trade companies or other institutions. ...

    Type of qualification This qualification is a advanced vocational training governed by federal state law at a trade and technical school. Trade and technical schools are continuing training institutions which impart recognised vocational qualifications governed by federal state law in various organisational forms (full-time or part-time basis).  They qualify workers to take on higher-level skilled work and middle-level and senior level leadership and management tasks in functional areas which are also knowledge and practice oriented.  Curricula build on the knowledge and competences imparted during initial vocational education and training and on the experiences gained from several years of professional activity and are closely aligned to company practice and current related technical disciplines. Duration of continuing training is 2 or 3 years (correspondingly longer if completed on a part-time basis). Those completing the qualification are in possession of competences for the planning, processing and evaluation of comprehensive professional tasks and problems and of competences for autonomous management of processes in sub-areas of a technical specialism or in a field of occupational activity.   5. Vocational training preparation: Employment agency measures (117 SGB III, BvB-Reha)

    Type of qualification This qualification is a vocational training preparation scheme which is located in the transitional area between general schooling and vocational education and training. Training provision is aimed at fostering individual improvement in capability for entering training and at aiding career choice decisions on the part of young people. It does not lead to a vocational qualification.   The prevocational training year is a training course at vocational schools which is normally offered on a full-time basis and which prepares young people for the requirements of vocational training. When aligned to level 1 of the DQR, the prevocational training year is categorised as general education. It is partially based on the first year of training in a training occupation in terms of theory and practice. It includes an expansion of general education and parts of basic vocational training within a single occupational field. Duration of training: at least 6 months, usually 6 to 12 months Vocational preparation schemes are a training instrument to facilitate access to the training and labour market for young people and young adults.
