Qualification Information

On completion of a Master's degree the student shall:

Knowledge and understanding

  • Know and understand the main methods and theories associated with the respective field of schooling
  • Have an understanding of current research in the respective field, including nature of the research and key findings
  • Be familiar with public school policy and national curricula, as well as international and domestic ethical guidelines related to the work of teachers
  • Have knowledge of teaching materials and instructor guides in their field, their role, attributes, and research related to their use
  • Have knowledge and understanding select methods, theories, and research in the fields of pedagogy, assessment, and school development
  • Have a working knowledge of the main components of educational research methods
  • Have an overview of diverse teaching and assessment methods in their own field
  • Understand the structure and professional practices of upper secondary schools.

Skills

  • Be able to apply select research methods appropriate for the respective field of study, and for schooling and upper secondary schooling in general
  • Be able to prepare lessons and assessments
  • Be able to use teaching technology and software for teaching
  • Be able to teach their subject in varied circumstances in an upper secondary school setting and in grades 8-10
  • Be able to make independent professional decisions and support them on the basis of theories of teaching and learning
  • Be prepared to write course materials for their field, either alone or in collaboration with someone else
  • Be able to use the field of study to organize and run development work in upper secondary schools
  • Be able to present research findings in an appropriate manner.

  • Be able to select and use diverse and appropriate methods, theories, and research findings in their chosen subject, respective field, and in schooling in general
  • Be able to select and use appropriate teaching methods in varied circumstances
  • Be able to select and use appropriate methods for school development in the respective field
  • Be able to apply their knowledge and abilities to tackle new and previously unfamiliar topics in the teaching of their subject, their field, and schooling in general
  • Be able to contemplate and debate policies, trends, and issues in their own subject, respective field, and in upper secondary schooling in general
  • Be able to participate in development work, both in their subject and in schooling in general
  • Be able to initiate research and development projects in the field of schooling, and can structure and manage them.
