The University of Aveiro degree in Translation aims to provide graduates with a general scientific understanding and appropriate working methodologies to enable them to develop essential translating competences in two foreign languages; to develop the future graduates' competences in their mother tongue and in two foreign languages, with a view to mediating between these languages; and to prepare graduates for post-graduate study in various areas of specialisation.

Although study programmes are taught in Portuguese, teaching staff will be able to provide tutorial-type support in English and will provide English language recommended lists.

The University of Aveiro (UA) offers a wide range of degree and non-degree programmes through its university departments and polytechnic schools in various areas of knowledge which reflect its multidisciplinary and innovative character. Have successfully completed secondary school or have an equivalent qualification 

Have completed one of the following university entrance exams (central exams prepared by the Ministry of Education and Science): Portuguese Language and German Language; or Spanish Language; or French Language; or English Language

Holders of a 1st cycle degree in Translation will be ready to work in translation companies and public or private institutions: graduates will have acquired a general training in translation, competences in research and in the use of the main translation tools, linguistic competences and competences in mediating between languages and cultures as well as a solid grounding in the Portuguese language.

On the campuses of Santiago and Crasto, the UA has halls of residences, consisting of 34 residential blocks, with a total of 1,044 beds, in single or shared rooms, equipped with kitchen, laundry and study rooms. These housing units accommodate graduate and post-graduate students who request this service.
