Professional Bachelor's Degree in Statistics Mathematics, Statistics Mathematician (LU)

Qualification Information

- to study basic courses of different sub-branches of mathematics;
- to master courses of mathematical statistics and economics of mathematics;
- to be able to use computer and special computer packages;
- to accomplish a practice period in statistics or development of mathematical models of economy in a state or a private enterprise;
- to develop and defend in public a Bachelor thesis, which requires understanding of various study courses of mathematics and particularly the courses on theory of probability and mathematical statistics and their mutual interconnections;
- demonstrates practical application of basics of mathematics, statistics and computer science in concrete mathematical and statistical problem solving.

The purpose of the professional higher education study programme Mathematician Statistician is to train qualified mathematicians and statisticians for Latvian State institutions as well as for the state and private structural units of national economy.

1. of The KNOWLEDGE at the level of notion:

1.2. local and international economic environment, market development trends and perspectives;
1.3. international financial and securities markets;
1.4. Latvian and international legal provisions related to the work in the profession.
2. The KNOWLEDGE at the level of understanding of:

2.2. statistical theories;
2.3. professional terminology in the official language and at least two foreign languages;
2.4. insurance markets;
2.5. macroeconomics, microeconomics and accountancy theories;
2.6. statistical indicator analysis of macroeconomics and microeconomics, finance, demography, public health etc.;
2.7. consumer rights protection;
2.8. laws and regulations in the field of statistics, physical person data protection and business.

Skills:

1. To have good knowledge and observe the laws and regulations of the Republic of  Latvia  in the field of statistics, data protection of physical persons and business.
2. To understand the structure and activity of the company, orientate in the main statistical models and methods used in the company.
3. To formulate statistical problems and statement of the task mathematically.
4. To develop mathematical and statistical models for the needs of the company.
5. To get high quality statistical data from different sources of information.
6. To work with different information outline types (network websites, prints, presentations, brochures, annual books etc.).
7. To develop questionnaires or other survey tools to maintain information.
8. To plan and perform sample surveys.
9. To perform data processing by using specific mathematical and statistical software application packages.
10. To perform analysis by using multidimensional analysis methods.
11. To analyse and predict Latvian and international finance market trends, make a security analysis and portfolio management.
12. To develop and analyse input-output tables.
13. To develop and analyse payment balance.
14. To interpret statistical results clearly and to represent demonstratively.  
15. To apply logical conclusion-making methods.
16. To perform scientific and research work and consult regarding implementation of the the research results in practice.
17. To prepare presentations and speak about professional issues at conferences, seminars, meetings.
18. To know how to draw up business documents.
19. To know the official language.
20. To know at least two foreign languages at the communication level.
21. To use professional terminology in the official language and at least one foreign language.
22. To use and process data bases containing statistical information.
23. To use modern information acquisition, processing and systematization technologies.
24. To acquire modern information technologies and use them in practice.
25. To observe information protection and confidentiality.
26. To develop, lead and perform projects related to the field of mathematical statistics.
27. To observe the standards of the legal employment relationship.
28. To observe the requirements of the labor protection, fire safety and environmental protection laws and regulations.
29. To use computer hardware and office equipment.
30. To observe the usage instructions of the office equipment.
31. To plan and organize the own work.
32. To perform work individually and in a team.
33. To use communication skills.
34. To acquire new knowledge independently, improve the own professional competence.
35. To observe the principles of professional and general ethics.
36. To keep the professional neutrality and objectivity of a statistician by explaining the importance of statistical data and results objectively, professionally and transparently, complying scientific independence and treating all other users equally.
