Professional Bachelor's degree in Media Studies, Journalist (ViA)

Qualification Information

Master courses of general academic education, and professional courses in media studies and journalism theory, methods and applications;

Acquire knowledge and understanding of theoretical and practical aspects of media studies and journalism;
- contemporary development trends in the sphere of social sciences; get insight into the process of media and social aspects, the role and significance of mass media, the state and public administration, the functioning of economic and political system;

Master academic research methods and skills, to conduct an independent research, evaluation and analysis in the field of media studies and journalism;

Acquire skills required for the work in media and journalism during internship;

- use and integrate the acquired theoretical knowledge and practical skills in the real work environment according to the set objectives by applying adequate methods and tools, with an emphasis on applied aspects of media studies and journalism;

Develop communication, social and public presentation skills, as well as teamwork skills, critical judgment and problem solving skills;

Write and defend a graduation paper.

14. To understand professional ethics requirements for each media type and genre.
15. To apply language of expression specific to each media type and journalistic genre.
16. To apply newly acquired knowledge in the information gathering, selection, processing and presentation process.
17. To build databases for sources of information.
18. Ability to determine the extent of one's competence depending on the task at hand, responsibilities and status within a media organization.
19. To gather, select, collect, process and present the information corresponding to the selected media type and genre, being able to differentiate between pieces of content of the respective media type or journalistic genre.
20. To be able to interpret the information in accordance with the conventional requirements of the genre (explain, analyse or comment on).
21. To be able to critically evaluate sources of information and the selected information-gathering techniques to make sure of the credibility of the source, strive for truthful information, balance opposing views and respect the principle of information diversity.
22. To plan, organize and manage information-gathering, selection, processing and presentation processes.
23. To comply with the laws and regulations governing the field of journalism and media and the code of conduct.
24. To understand production of the media content, as well as the use and interpretation of theoretical knowledge.
25. To develop skills to create new media content formats (categories, columns, inter-genre formats) to match the developments of media technology and content.
26. To be able to use information technology in accordance with the media type.
27. To be able to operate in press, television and radio, as well as on the Internet.
28. To use industry terminology in the official language and one foreign language.
29. To know at least two foreign languages at the communication level.
