Qualification Information

Acquire key and specialized knowledge in the field of allowing to create graphic design product or interior design project;
- show the understanding of the most important terms and regularities of the design field, to orient in the structure of the design process,
- to know the means of expression characteristic to the design language;
- to understand the criteria of design values in historical, political, economic, aesthetic, ethnic and social context;
- apply the acquired theoretical knowledge and skills to perform professional and artistically innovative activity in design sector.

To define and describe analytically information, problems in graphics design and allied sectors, and to foresee possible solutions;
- to assess factors influencing the development of graphic design;
- to define issues and goals of graphic design project, to develop project offer independently and creatively,
- to implement typographic or digital design project, to coordinate implementation with client, employer, manufacturer;
- to co-operate with other specialists (marketing, public relations, communications, printing, information technologies, photographers, artists, etc.);
- to abreast traditional and digital technologies of visualization and range of materials.

The aim of the professional bachelor study programme “Art” is to give students a possibility:
- to become analytically and creatively thinking specialists who are competitive in the modern labour market and who have versatile knowledge in the field of digital design or interior design, who possess originality of artistic ideas, cognitive, social, cultural, technological, economic understanding of designing context and the ability to use the possibilities provided by the computer and production technologies in their employment both in enterprises of Latvia and in international projects;
- to obtain Level 5 professional qualification in digital design or interior design.
The acquisition of the programme provide students with the possibility for further studies and/or advanced specialization within the professional development programmes and Master studies in Latvia and abroad.

Objectives of the study programme:
To create preconditions for students for the acquisition of knowledge and formation of competencies in:
- fine arts, composition, colouristics;
- visualisation, picture and image systematization;
- understanding the specifics of different design works;
- design, design management, assessment of financial and economic aspects of projects;
- development of projects based on understanding of physical, cognitive, culture, social and economic factors;
- new technologies and software, as well as the spectrum of opportunities offered by the production technologies;
- culture of business communication, cooperation with clients and other parties involved in the projects.

To give a possibility for students to develop research skills integral to the understanding and implementation of theoretical assumptions for the purposes of analysis and interpretation of factological and visual material, thus ensuring logical and continuous integration of theoretical assumptions with practice.

To promote the improvement of students’ personality in the study process.
After the acquisition of the study programme students will be able to:
- show key and specialized knowledge in the field of design characteristic to the profession of the graphic designer or interior designer creating the graphic design product or interior design project;
- show the understanding of the most important terms and regularities of the design field, to orient in the structure of the design process,
- to know the means of expression characteristic to the design language;
- understand the criteria of design values in historical, political, economic, aesthetic, ethnic and social context;
- demonstrate the understanding of the topicalities in the design field and its role in the context of the state economy;
- formulate and describe analytically the information, problems of the design and related fields and predict the possible solutions;
- evaluate factors influencing the development of design and participants;
- applying the acquired theoretical knowledge and skills to perform professional and artistically innovative activity in design sector;
- formulate the work problems and supreme objective,
- to develop independently and creatively the design offer, adjust it with the client, employer, responsible services, technical executors, manufacturers;
- orient in the range of traditional and digital visualization technologies and offer of materials;
- choose the most suitable, respective artistic and technical approaches for implementing the design idea;
- plan the implementation of the design project, perform author supervision, control the quality of production works of the design product and the correspondence to the conception, aesthetic and technical quality, environment protection and requirements of safety norms;
- systematize and archive the information accumulated in the process of developing the design project;
- do work individually or in a team, make decisions according to the competence and take responsibility, solve conflict situations;
- choose the presentation strategy, present the project to different audiences, discuss argumentatively about it;
- structure independently one’s learning;
- show scientific approach in problem solving in the area of interior or graphic design;
- observe ethical norms;
- be aware of the necessity of lifelong learning.
