Graduates will be familiar with contemporary knowledge and developments in mathematics and will be capable of research in mathematics.

Students must pass examinations in four subjects in which they have attended lectures (72 credits), write two seminar papers (18 credits) and defend them in a seminar, and write a master's thesis (30 credits). Graduates of this programme must complete the programme by the 30.9.2016.

Third-cycle doctoral study programmes (SQF level 10)

Examination performance is scored as follows: 10 (excellent); 9 (very good: above-average knowledge but with some mistakes); 8 (very good: solid results); 7 (good); 6 (adequate: knowledge satisfies minimum criteria); 5–1 (inadequate). In order to pass an examination, a candidate must achieve a grade between adequate (6) and excellent (10).

Candidates who have completed any other academic study programme or who achieved an average grade of less than 8 in their undergraduate programme may enrol in the postgraduate programme if they pass an entrance examination, the content and scope of which are determined individually on the basis of the candidate's previous study
