A network of centres linking together the Careers Guidance systems in Europe euroguidance promotes mobility, helping guidance counsellors and individuals to better understand the opportunities available to European citizens throughout Europe.
The Portuguese Sign Language degree aims to develop and consolidate studies around this language in order for it to be understood as a vehicle for full and autonomous communication by the deaf community.
The Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra was created in 1979 when polytechnic education was introduced in Portugal.
We are a public institute of higher education, which is composed of six schools (Coimbra College of Agriculture, Coimbra College of Education, Oliveira do Hospital College of Technology and Management, Coimbra College of Health Technology, Coimbra Institute of Accounting and Administration and Coimbra Institute of Engineering), Social Welfare Services (SAS) and the Central Administration (SC).
As one may deduce from the names of our schools, the Institute has to offer a large variety of studies, which also include cross-border education in partnership with other European institutions of higher education, for both bachelor’s and master degree levels.
Coimbra College of Education (ESEC) was created and integrated into Coimbra Polytechnic Institute in 1979. As the successor to the Regular Primary School of Coimbra, ESEC initiates its task in teacher training in 1987 with the following courses: Pre-primary Education; Primary Education, in Portuguese and French Language Teaching and Music Teaching. Nowadays, provides not only Primary and Pre-primary Teacher training, but also education in Social and Educational Recreation, Communication, Tourism and Arts.
ESEC provides a space for living and learning, where different kinds of studies cohabit, each vitalising the space in its own manner.

Train professionals to teach or interpret Portuguese Sign Language (LGP) as a 1st or 2nd language and to spread the values and culture of the deaf community, contributing towards ensuring equal opportunities, social integration and access to education for deaf people, and towards ensuring that communication takes place between the deaf and the hearing.
The Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra possesses halls of residence and canteens located in different parts of the city so as to provide the suitable services to our student population, which is scattered like our schools. We also have to offer the whole community of the IPC a medical clinic with several medical specialties of conventional and complementary medicine, a cardio fitness and weight training gym, a sporting ground, as well as other sporting facilities which we hold in partnership with other entities.
